Pasumarthi Mruthyumjaya Sarma is a prominent exponent of Kuchipudi, born on February 18, 1981, in Kuchipudi village, Andhra Pradesh. He hails from a traditional family of Bhagavatulus, with his father, Pasumarthi Keshavaprasad, being a dancer and vocalist. His maternal grandfather was Vedantam Parvateesham. Sarma received his initial dance training from the eminent guru Shri Vempati Chinna Satyam. He further honed his skills under the tutelage of his uncles, Vedantam Rattaiah Sarma and Vedantam Radhesyam. Despite facing congenital hearing impairment, which presented challenges in understanding music, he has emerged as a dedicated performer and teacher. Sarma's maiden performance, a "Poorvarangam," took place when he was six years old. He is known for his adherence to the traditional form of Kuchipudi, showcasing both the innate grace and vigor of the dance. He performs extensively as a solo artist and frequently collaborates with Sitalakshmi Prasad as a duo, demonstrating a synergy of taandava and laasya. His repertoire includes male roles in Kuchipudi Yakshaganas, such as in 'Usha Parinayam,' and he has also performed traditional female roles (stree vesha). Additionally, he has choreographed keertanas by Annamacharya. Beyond performing, Pasumarthi Mruthyumjaya Sarma is a faculty member at the Sri Bhakta Ramadasu Government College of Music and Dance in Hyderabad. He has conducted numerous workshops and lecture-demonstrations both in India and internationally, contributing to the propagation of Kuchipudi dance.
