Pasumarthy Seetharamiah, a distinguished figure in Indian classical dance, was born in 1927 in Kuchipudi, Andhra Pradesh. He received his foundational training in Kuchipudi dance from eminent gurus Shri Chinta Venkata Ramayya and Vedantam Raghavayya. In addition to his dance training, he also delved into vocal music, studying under Shri Elastmrapu Seeta Ramayya. Seetharamiah became a widely respected teacher, dedicating his career to propagating Kuchipudi dance. He established the Venkata Ramana Kuchipudi Nritya Niketan in Vishakhapatnam to further this art form. His teaching legacy includes training numerous Kuchipudi dancers both within India and internationally. He also provided specialized instruction in abhinaya and Yakshagana to postgraduate students at the Faculty of Fine Arts, Andhra University. Seetharamiah's contributions extended to choreography, as he created compositions for Kuchipudi dance that were subsequently published as commercial audio-cassettes. His significant work as a Kuchipudi dance teacher was recognized with the title Uttamanatyacharya in 1964. He also served as an honorary adviser to the Kuchipudi Natya Academy in Vishakhapatnam. For his profound contributions to Kuchipudi dance, Pasumarthy Seetharamiah was honored with the prestigious Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 2004.
