Pasumarthy Venkateswara Sarma is a highly acclaimed Kuchipudi dancer, teacher, and choreographer, renowned for his powerful portrayal of villainous characters with commanding glances and expressive gestures. Born in Kuchipudi Village, Andhra Pradesh, to Sri P.V. Chalapathi Sharma and Smt. Saraswathi, he hails from a lineage of Kuchipudi exponents. After completing his graduation in Commerce, he dedicated himself to Kuchipudi, obtaining a diploma in the dance form. He received his initial training under Sri Vedantam Radheshyam and Sri P.V.G. Krishna Sarma, and later underwent extensive training with the legendary Kuchipudi exponent, Padmabhushan Dr. Vempati Chinna Satyam. Sarma made his inaugural performance in the dance ballet `Parvathi Parinayam` in 1977, under the aegis of Sri P.V.G. Krishna Sarma. He has since performed numerous solo dances and played various roles in dance dramas choreographed by his guru, Dr. Vempati Chinna Satyam, including Bhrugu Maharshi in `Srinivasa Kalyanam` and Daksha in `Haravilasam`. As a choreographer, he has created several ballets such as `Parvathiparinayam` (1985), `Mahishasura Mardhini` (1986), `Keechaka Vadha`, `Kumarasambhavam`, and `Varudhini Pravarakhya`. Pasumarthy Venkateswara Sarma began teaching Kuchipudi dance in 1980 and established "Sri Bala Tripura Sundari Kuchipudi Natya Kalakshetram," a school dedicated to the art form. He toured Germany in 1992 and the USA in 1998 with Dr. Vempati Chinna Satyam, staging several dance ballets. From March 2000 to March 2002, he was a Senior Fellowship Awardee by the Department of Culture, Ministry of HRD, Government of India, conducting research on a comparative study between Yakshagana and Nritya Natika.
