Poonam Shyam is a professional Kathak dancer, choreographer, and teacher currently based in Zürich, Switzerland. She is a senior disciple of Guru Rujuta Soman, under whose tutelage she studied Kathak for almost 18 years in Pune, India. Shyam has gained recognition for her choreographies and performances within the Kathak scene in India and has extensively performed and conducted workshops locally, nationally, and internationally. She is the founder of "TRISHNA" (Trishna Dance Foundation), an Indian dance school in Zürich that offers training in pure Classical Kathak, Bollywood, and Indian Folk dance styles. Trishna aims to preserve and promote Indian dance through performances, training, productions, education, and organizing events. Poonam Shyam has also received training in Jazz, Indo Jazz, and Bollywood styles at the Shiamak Davar's Institute for Performing Arts (SDIPA), where she was certified as a student with "Special Potential." Her creative compositions include "KRISHNAMAYEE," a classical Kathak choreography for the Indo-German project "SPIRIT," and "BLACK & WHITE," a Kathak-Contemporary dance piece. Shyam has choreographed for Marathi films, including "Vasudev Balwant Phadke" and "Mani Mangalsutra," and for television commercials. She has also performed in the feature film "Bayo" and played a leading role in "Dancing Poetry." Poonam Shyam values the social aspect of arts, having performed, conceptualized, and choreographed for charity shows. Awards & Honours: Nritya Visharad.
