Poornima Kaushik is a distinguished Indian classical dancer, celebrated for her mastery of the Vazhuvoor style of Bharatanatyam. Her journey in dance commenced at the tender age of five, under the tutelage of the esteemed Guru Kalaimamani Smt. K.J. Sarasa in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. She performed her Arangetram at the age of ten, graced by the presence of musical legend Smt. M.L. Vasanthakumari. With a performing career spanning over three decades as of 2019, Poornima Kaushik has captivated diverse audiences across India and internationally, accumulating close to 300 performances to her credit. Currently, Poornima Kaushik continues her training under her mother-in-law, Guru Smt. Padma Murali, associated with the Padmalaya Dance Foundation in Bangalore. She holds significant leadership roles, serving as an executive member of the International Dance Alliance, Bangalore Chapter, and as the Associate Artistic Director of the Padmalaya Dance Foundation. Beyond her performing career, Kaushik is a dedicated educator, imparting her knowledge and passion for Bharatanatyam through her own institution, the Surya School of Performing Arts. She has also conceptualized and choreographed "Dancing Tales," a series of storytelling sessions through dance designed for both children and adults, aimed at making classical dance accessible to a wider audience. In addition to her dance accomplishments, Poornima Kaushik is trained in Carnatic music and is involved in a non-profit venture called "Surya," which supports children with ocular cancer.
