🪔 About

Pragnya Thamire is an accomplished Kuchipudi dancer, teacher, and choreographer based in the United States. She commenced her dance training at the age of five under the tutelage of Anuradha Nehru, the Artistic Director of Kalanidhi Dance. Her dedication to Indian classical dance has seen her develop into a confident and vibrant performer. Thamire made her debut as a member of the Kalanidhi Dance Company when she was 12 years old. In 2016, at the age of 15, she performed her Rangapravesham, a significant solo debut in Kuchipudi. Her performance career includes appearances at esteemed venues and festivals such as the Kennedy Center, Lincoln Center, Library of Congress, Wolf Trap, and the Drive East Festival in New York City. Beyond performing, Thamire has a strong inclination towards choreography. She was given opportunities to choreograph for Kalanidhi students early in her career. In 2020, she choreographed her first original Kuchipudi dance, "Sakala," as part of a collaboration between Kalanidhi and IndianRaga. She also choreographed "Ardhanareeshwara Stotram," which she has performed and presented during lecture-demonstrations. In January 2022, Thamire joined the Kalanidhi staff, initially as a marketing manager, with responsibilities that include teaching and outreach. She currently holds the position of Assistant Artistic Director at Kalanidhi Dance. Recognized as one of the next generation of emerging Kuchipudi artists, Pragnya Thamire undertook an India Tour in 2025-2026, presenting solo Kuchipudi performances in cities including Chennai, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, and New Delhi. Her performances during this tour were well-received, with audiences commending her dynamic stage presence, strong poses, clarity of movement, and expressive abhinaya. Her mother, Lavanya Thamire, is also a Kuchipudi dancer, teacher, and the Managing Director of Kalanidhi's dance school.
