Dr. Prakriti Bhaskar is a distinguished figure in Indian classical dance, known for her multifaceted contributions as a performer, teacher, choreographer, writer, and filmmaker in Bharatanatyam. Her extensive training spans over four decades, during which she honed her artistry under three eminent gurus: Kathakali maestro Guru Raghavan Nair, rhythm wizard Talavidwan Guru T.S. Kadhirvelu Pillai, and acclaimed choreographer Padmashri Guru Adyar K. Lakshman. This rigorous training enabled her to develop a mature artistic sensibility and a highly creative approach to dance. Dr. Bhaskar holds a Masters Degree in Fine-Arts and is recognized as a National Scholar. She specializes in the unique 'Cross-Rhythm technique' and is proficient in rhythmic choreography and nattuvangam (the art of playing cymbals). Her choreographic works are celebrated for their visual artistry and expressive simplicity. Committed to the propagation and preservation of classical Indian dance, Dr. Bhaskar founded the Shiladhish Art & Research Institute in Mumbai, which has been instrumental in popularizing Bharatanatyam for over 40 years. The institute offers systematic training in the traditional Pandanallur style of Bharatanatyam, integrating tala, nattuvangam, and choreography with an in-depth study of shastras and yogic practices. In 2007, she spearheaded the 'Art Initiative Movement (AIM)' to foster art awareness and hosts an annual performing arts festival called NRITYAM. Her spiritual journey led her to meet Swami Veda Bharati ji in 2012, after which she was initiated into the Himalayan Yoga Tradition. This integration of classical dance with yogic principles deepened her understanding of dance as a spiritual and transformative discipline, leading to the development of her 'Dance of Transformation' workshop.
