Prashanth G Shastry is an accomplished Indian classical dancer, choreographer, and teacher specializing in Bharatanatyam. He received his initial training from his mother, the late Guru Prabhavathi Gopal Shastry, who was also the founder of Naatyakalakshetra. He further honed his skills under the tutelage of esteemed gurus Lalitha Srinivasan and Sri V.P. Dhananjayans. Shastry has made significant contributions to the field of Bharatanatyam as both a performer and an educator. In 2005, he co-founded Naatyakalakshetra with his mother, establishing branches in Chennai and Bangalore, where they have trained numerous students. His mother had previously founded Gayathri Nrithyalaya in Bangalore in 1975. Prashanth G Shastry is recognized for his dynamic performances, particularly his Tandavam, for which he received the President's Gold Medal in 1990. Beyond his dance career, Prashanth G Shastry has also pursued a career as an actor, appearing as a hero in various South Indian movies and television series. Despite his acting commitments, he remains actively involved in the classical dance community. His sisters, Shilpa and Gayathri, are also Bharatanatyam dancers.
