Prateeti Punja Ballal grew up in Bangalore, India, and pursued her postgraduate studies in the United States. Her academic career saw her teaching Literature at various universities, including Hunter College, City University of New York. Prior to her academic pursuits, she spent fifteen years working in the software industry. Punja Ballal is a recipient of a Mellon fellowship for her research and has been honored with several regional and international awards for her technical publications. Beyond her professional career, she maintains a deep and sustaining interest in the arts, identifying as both a musician and a dancer. She has been actively involved in the cultural landscape of Bangalore, serving as a co-curator for the 'Bangalore Then and Now' exhibition and contributing to the programming work for the Bangalore Literature Festival. In the realm of Indian classical dance, Prateeti Punja is listed as a performer and teacher specializing in Bharatanatyam, Kuchipudi, and Odissi, with additional skills and expertise in Kathak, Manipuri, and Sattriya. She received training under the esteemed guru U.S. Krishna Rao.
