Preetha Arun is a dedicated Bharatanatyam dancer and teacher with a career spanning over three decades. She was initiated into the Kalakshetra style of Bharatanatyam under the tutelage of Padmashri Kalaimamani Adyar K. Lakshman. Following her arangetram (dance debut) in 1986, she further honed her skills in the Vazhuvoor style, receiving advanced training from Sangeetha Kala Acharya Kalaimamani Smt. Radha, a torch-bearer of this rich dance tradition. Preetha Arun has performed extensively both in India and internationally. Her performances in India include prestigious venues in Chennai such as The Music Academy, Kartik Fine Arts, Kapali Fine Arts, Nungambakkam Cultural Academy, Mylapore Fine Arts Club, Narada Gana Sabha, and R.R. Sabha. She has also graced stages at TCS in Chowdiah Memorial, Bangalore, Tamil Isai Sangam in Pollachi, Kambar Vizha in Gobichettipalayam, and the 75th Birthday celebrations of Bhagwan Shri Sathya Sai Baba in Puttaparthi. Internationally, she has performed at events like the Mata Amritanandamayi Fundraiser and Indian Independence Day Celebrations in Boston, USA. Beyond her performing career, Preetha Arun is a committed educator. She has been teaching classical Bharatanatyam for over 25 years in both the USA and India. From 1997 to 2005, she trained numerous students in the Boston area through her school, Samarpana. She founded the Samarpana Dance Academy, which is now located in Whitefield, Bangalore, offering Bharatanatyam classes to students aged five and above. In March 2020, she adapted her teaching methods to include online classes in response to the global pandemic. Preetha Arun holds a graduate degree in commerce from Stella Maris College, Chennai, and a postgraduate degree in management from the University of Madras, Chennai. She has been recognized for her contributions to dance, receiving a prize for her choreography of "Divyadhara" and a grant from the Massachusetts Cultural Council to promote awareness of Bharatanatyam.
