Pandit Ram Mohan Maharaj is a distinguished Kathak maestro, representing the seventh generation of the illustrious Kalka-Bindadin Gharana of Lucknow. His journey in Kathak began at the tender age of six, under the tutelage of his father, the revered Padma Shri Pt. Shambhu Maharaj. Following his father's passing, he continued his rigorous training under his cousin, the legendary Padma Vibhushan Pt. Birju Maharaj, becoming a flagbearer of the Lucknow Gharana. Throughout his extensive career, Pt. Ram Mohan Maharaj has been a leading exponent of Kathak, performing solo in prestigious programs across India and choreographing numerous ballets both nationally and internationally. He served as the head of the Dance (Kathak) department at Bharatiya Kala Kendra (later Kathak Kendra) and held the position of director at the Sangeet Natak Academy in Lucknow. His teaching legacy extends globally, having imparted Kathak lessons in the United States, United Kingdom, and Russia. Notably, he trained actress Madhuri Dixit for her role in 'Devdas' and was the first dance guru to Manisha Koirala. In recent years, fulfilling the last wishes of Pt. Birju Maharaj, Pt. Ram Mohan Maharaj relocated from Delhi to Lucknow. He now dedicates his efforts to promoting the Lucknow Gharana by conducting free Kathak classes for children from economically weaker backgrounds at his ancestral home, Kalka Bindadin Maharaj Ki Deorhi. He is also a skilled Tabla and Pakahawaj player. He co-organized the "Harshotsav" dance and music festival in Mumbai, aimed at promoting the legacy of Pt. Shambhu Maharaj.
