🪔 About

Dr. Puneet Panda is an accomplished Bharatanatyam dancer, deeply rooted in the Kalakshetra style. He is a distinguished disciple of the legendary gurus Sri Dhananjayan and Smt Shanta Dhananjayan, from whom he imbibed dedication, devotion, and discipline, principles he applies to both his artistic and professional life. By profession, Dr. Panda is an ophthalmic surgeon. As a performer, Puneet Panda is celebrated for his vibrant stage presence and a unique blend of energy and elegance, all while upholding the traditional purity of his gurus' teachings. He is also a skilled nattuvanar, having provided rhythmic accompaniment for numerous artists. Puneet frequently performs Bharatanatyam duets with his wife, Taniya Panda, who is also an accomplished Bharatanatyam dancer and Carnatic vocalist. Their performances have graced stages extensively across India and the United States. Notable appearances include "The Dhananjayans' Nrityopahaaram" at the Natya 2009 conference in Towson, MD, where his presentation was described as lively, combining technique, grace, and storytelling. In June 2015, Puneet and Taniya presented "Atmarpanam" in Rockville, MD, a recital lauded for its distinct and sophisticated artistry. They also participated in "Culture for a Cause 2015" in Danbury, CT. Critics have highlighted Puneet's impressive portrayal of Lord Nataraja, characterized by strong arm movements, intense footwork, and a majestic stage presence. His ability to convey *bhakti rasa* and his *sattwika abhinayam* have also been praised. The couple also choreographed a Thillana for one of their performances. Puneet Panda views dance as an essential part of his life, a form of therapy that helps him understand himself better and experience the infinite dimensions of the art form through stories, emotions, moods, and music. While he was noted to be new to Danbury, CT, in 2015, he is currently a practicing ophthalmologist in the Atlanta area.
