Radha Dutta is a distinguished Indian classical dancer and teacher, recognized for her contributions to both Bharatanatyam and Mohiniattam, particularly as a pioneering exponent and educator of Mohiniattam residing outside India. She is credited with being the first teacher of Mohiniattam in the Washington, D.C. area. Dutta received extensive training in Bharatanatyam under the tutelage of the esteemed Dhananjayans and Kalanidhi Narayanan in Madras, India. Her passion for Mohiniattam led her to Kerala, where she further honed her skills under the guidance of the doyenne Kalyanikutti Amma and her daughter Shreedevi. Beyond classical dance, she also trained in Nazrul Geeti from Purabi Datta in Calcutta and studied Carnatic vocal music. Dutta holds the "Nritya Praveen" degree in dance, signifying her accomplished status. Throughout her career, Radha Dutta has performed extensively both in India and internationally. Her notable performances in India include appearances at the International Dance Alliance at the Music Academy in Madras, the Shankarabharanam Dance Fest at Mylapore Fine Arts in Madras, and the Nishagandhi Dance Festival at Kanakakunnu Palace, organized by the Kerala Department of Tourism. Internationally, she has given recitals at "Mandapa" in Paris and has been presented to the World Bank by the Embassy of India in Washington, D.C. She has also performed at the Kennedy Center, Smithsonian, Asian Pacific Heritage events, Murugan Temple of North America, and the Darpana Dance Fest at Lisner Auditorium in Washington, D.C. Dutta was also associated with the renowned Ananda Shankar's Contemporary Dance Troup in India and has appeared in several television telecasts. As a dedicated educator, Radha Dutta established her dance and music academy, "Kalalayam," in Bethesda, Maryland, USA, serving the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. At Kalalayam, she imparts training in Bharatanatyam, Mohiniattam, and various folk dances, including Bangladeshi and South Indian styles. Additionally, she teaches Carnatic music and Nazrul Geeti, reflecting her diverse artistic expertise and commitment to preserving and promoting Indian classical arts.
