Ragini Chandershekar, born on November 14, 1976, in Delhi, India, is a renowned Bharatanatyam dancer, recognized as one of the finest of her generation and an icon with a legacy spanning over 35 years. She inherited the art form as a family tradition, receiving her initial training from her mother, Guru Jamuna Krishnan, and Guru K.J. Govindarajan. Her advanced training in Bharatanatyam was under the tutelage of esteemed masters including Kalaimamani Guru K.N. Dakshinamoorthy Pillai, Padmabhushan Smt. Kalanidhi Narayanan, and Late Smt. Usha Srinivasan. Additionally, Ragini Chandershekar is an accomplished classical singer, having trained in Carnatic vocals for 15 years under Guru S. Gopalakrishnan, and in Nattuvangam by Vidwan Karaikudi Shivakumar. Her illustrious career has seen her grace prestigious stages both nationally and internationally, including The Sangeet Natak Akademi Swarnotsav Festival and Musee Guimet in Paris. She has performed extensively across India at festivals such as Jhansi Mahotsav and those organized by the ICCR, and internationally in Barcelona, Madrid, Spain, Turkey, China, and Hong Kong. Notably, she was the youngest performer invited by ARTA in Paris to conduct month-long dance workshops in 2001 and 2003. Ragini Chandershekar is an 'A' graded artiste with Doordarshan, a senior empanelled artiste with the ICCR, and has been recognized as an 'Outstanding' Bharatanatyam artiste by the Ministry of Culture for Festivals of India held abroad. As an educator at the Kalangan Centre for Classical Arts in New Delhi, she imparts her profound understanding of Bharatanatyam, meticulously mentoring the next generation of dancers and translating the art form to students from diverse backgrounds while upholding tradition. She holds postgraduate degrees in English Literature and Public Relations and Advertising from Lady Shri Ram College for Women. Awards & Honours: Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar (2009), Yuva Kala Bharati, IIDF Award for Bharatanatyam, Lakshmi Viswanathan Endowment Award, Gold Medal by Vipanchee Trust.
