Rajeevan K S, also known as Kalanilayam Rajeevan, is a highly regarded Kathakali musician and accompanist, born on May 26, 1969, in Kannamangalathu Mana, Aluva, Kerala, India. His parents are Sankaran Namboodiri and Sharada Antharjanam. His fascination with Kathakali music began early, leading him to pursue a six-year diploma in Kathakali music from 1990 to 1996. He was initiated into the art form by Kalamandalam Balachandran and further honed his skills at Unnai Warrier Smaraka Kalanilayam. Rajeevan received extensive training under esteemed gurus such as Kalamandalam Balachandran, Kalamandalam Narayanan Embranthiri, Kalamandalam Rajendran, and Kalamandalam Haidarali. Following his studies at Kalanilayam, he underwent four years of advanced training with Hyderali. Rajeevan K S has established himself as a prominent figure in Kathakali music, known for his distinctive style that has garnered praise from veteran performers. He made his debut as a 'ponnani' (main musician) for 'Thoranayudham' in Aluva, performing alongside the legendary Kalamandalam Ramankutty Nair. He has also lent his voice to productions like 'Kachadevayani'. Beyond his musical contributions, Rajeevan is recognized for his role as a 'director' of the Kathakali stage, ensuring the timely provision of props. He has also showcased his talent as a choreographer for productions such as 'Jayandracharitham', 'Mookambika Mahatmyam', and 'Dundubhi Mayavi'. A globe-trotting artist, he performs in over 260 stages annually, captivating audiences across Kerala and internationally.
