Rajkumari Thambalsana Devi is a distinguished figure in Indian classical dance, renowned for her profound contributions to Manipuri dance. Her career spans over five decades, during which she has significantly enriched the art form through classical styles such as Raas Leela and Lai Haraoba, as well as various tribal folk traditions. She was a vital force in promoting Manipuri dance both nationally and globally after joining the Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy (JNMDA). Her international performances include a notable tour in the Soviet Union in 1954, and she has also showcased India's cultural heritage in countries like China, Japan, and South Korea. Rajkumari Thambalsana Devi has also been recognized for her resilience in navigating and overcoming societal barriers faced by women in theatre and the performing arts.
