🪔 About
Ranjumoni Saikia is a leading Indian classical dance figure, renowned for her profound contributions to Sattriya, a classical dance form originating from Assam. She is the daughter and disciple of the legendary Guru Rasheswar Saikia Borbayan, a visionary who pioneered teaching Sattriya dance to women, bringing the art form from the confines of monasteries to the public stage. Ranjumoni Saikia has dedicated her life to upholding and propagating her father's legacy, strictly adhering to his style and vision in her performances and teaching both in India and internationally. A noted practitioner, choreographer, and research scholar, Ranjumoni Saikia serves as the Principal of Rasaraj Sattriya Sangeet Vidyalaya and is a teacher at Sangeet Sattra, an institution her father founded (originally named Bayaner School). She also teaches Ojhapali in Sangeet Sattra. Beyond these roles, she runs a school under the Satya Sai organisation, where she provides free dance education to individuals from diverse communities and children of laborers. Her commitment to the art form is further demonstrated by her authorship of "Matiakhara Pathyakram," a theoretical book on Sattriya dance. A significant milestone in her career includes staging the Ankiya Bhaona “Ram Vijay” with an all-women cast for the first time, promoting women's empowerment through her art. She has been practicing Sattriya dance since the age of five. Awards & Honours: Sangeet Natak Akademi Award (2019), Debodhara Award (2016).
