🪔 About

Rathimalar Govindarajoo is a Malaysian dancer, choreographer, performing arts educator, and creative collaborator whose career spans over three decades across Malaysia, the United Kingdom, and Australia. Deeply rooted in the classical Indian traditions of Bharatanatyam and Odissi, her artistic practice bridges heritage and contemporary performance through choreography, education, and interdisciplinary collaboration. She received her formal training under Datuk Ramli Ibrahim, Artistic Director of Sutra Foundation, and has been an integral member of Sutra Dance Theatre for more than three decades. As a principal dancer with Sutra Dance Theatre, she partnered Ramli Ibrahim in numerous productions. Rathimalar also worked as a pioneer dancer with the Shobana Jeyasingh Dance Company (SJDC) in London, UK, from 2001 to 2006, and returned to perform in "Configurations" in 2011. She has performed extensively throughout India, Indonesia, Japan, Europe, and the United States, including the Sydney Opera House. Rathimalar has developed a distinctive choreographic voice, with notable works including "Panjara" (2012) and "SHAKTI" (2023). She has served as a Dance Education Specialist for CENDANA's Artis di Sekolah programme, facilitated workshops and masterclasses internationally, and was a dance adjudicator for the BOH Cameronian Arts Awards from 2020 to 2024. Rathimalar recently relocated to Coffs Harbour, Australia, where she continues to freelance as a teacher, choreographer, dancer, and artistic collaborator.
