Renjith Babu, a distinguished Bharatanatyam artist, was born in Calicut, Kerala, India, into an environment steeped in dance and theater. His journey in classical dance commenced at the tender age of ten, under the guidance of Guru Smt. Prasana Prakash. Following six years of foundational training, he pursued higher studies in Bharatanatyam at the renowned Kalakshetra in Chennai, India, where he successfully graduated in 2000, mentored by Srijith Krishna. His advanced training continued extensively under the veteran Guru Prof. C.V. Chandrasekhar, a mentorship that remains ongoing. Additionally, he delved into abhinaya, studying the 'Navarasa Sadhana' acting methodology developed by Kathakali and Kudiyattam artist Sri. G Venu. Throughout his career, Renjith Babu has been a prominent performer, featuring in numerous productions by Kalakshetra and with the Shrishti troupe in Hyderabad. He has graced stages as a principal dancer in acclaimed works by senior gurus, including Prof. C.V. Chandrasekhar and The Dhananjayans. His performances have captivated audiences in leading sabhas across India and internationally. An imaginative choreographer, his creative repertoire includes productions such as "Ramayanam" and "Menakshi Kalyanam." He also explores contemporary dance, notably in "The Living Tree." Renjith Babu's artistic philosophy extends beyond dance to encompass Yoga and Kalari, reflecting a holistic understanding of the human body and movement. He achieved the title of Yoga Siromani from the Sivananda Ashram in Neyardam, Trivandrum. In 2002, he co-founded "Dhwani," later renamed Sāraswatham Foundation in 2016, with Vijna Vasudevan in Chennai. This institution serves as a platform for integrating Bharatanatyam, Music, and Yoga, fostering creativity and holistic development in its students. Renjith Babu is a sought-after teacher, conducting Bharatanatyam and Yoga classes in India, Australia, and the United States, sharing his expertise in nuances of Bharatanatyam, theory, and Nattuvangam. His dedication to the art form and his innovative approach have earned him significant recognition in the Indian and international dance diaspora.
