Riaz Rhemutullah

Riaz Rhemtulla is a classical Indian Kathak dancer, specializing in the Lucknow gharana style. He has dedicated over two decades to training and performance under the guidance of Padmashri Pratap Pawar. Beyond his artistic pursuits, Rhemtulla possesses a diverse professional background, including experience in drama/theatre, genetics, social work, and education. He joined The Institute of Ismaili Studies (IIS) in 2000, initially as an Education Officer, where he managed teacher education programs for the Taʿlim primary education curriculum. He later advanced to the role of STEP Liaison Manager, focusing on facilitating knowledge and expertise sharing across Ismaili Tariqa and Religious Education Boards (ITREBs) globally for the effective implementation of IIS curricula. Currently, he serves as the Co-Head of the Department of Education: Teacher Education at IIS. Rhemtulla is also pursuing a Doctoral program in Art-Education at Simon Fraser University in Vancouver, Canada, with his research exploring the intersection of performing arts, specifically Kathak dance, and Islamic-based religious education. Prior to his tenure at IIS, he worked for several years as a teacher and teacher-educator for the Toronto District School Board in Canada.
