Ruchi Sanghi, a prominent Kathak artist, choreographer, and educator, is the founder and artistic director of the Ruchi Sanghi Dance Company (RSDC) in Sydney, Australia. Her journey in Kathak began at an early age in India, with initial training at Kathak Kendra in New Delhi under the tutelage of Reba Vidyarthi and Kundanlal Gangani (also cited as Shri Rajendra Gangani). She further honed her skills in Mumbai, undergoing intensive training with the legendary Kathak dancer and choreographer Gopi Krishna until his passing in 1994, a period she credits as deeply formative for her artistic voice. Beyond Kathak, Sanghi also has experience in Indian Folk and Bollywood dance forms. Upon moving to Australia, Ruchi Sanghi established RSDC in Sydney in 2000, which has since grown to become Australia's oldest and premier Kathak dance company and school. Through RSDC, she has been instrumental in cultivating a vibrant space for Kathak in a city where the art form was initially unfamiliar to many. Sanghi is dedicated to providing world-class Kathak training, aiming to bring her students to international standards and foster a connection to Indian culture among young Indian Australians. Her teaching philosophy emphasizes foundational understanding and cultural appreciation, particularly for students new to the classical dance form. As a choreographer and producer, Ruchi Sanghi is known for creating original works that often blend Kathak with other dance forms, making the classical art accessible to diverse audiences without compromising its essence. Her critically acclaimed productions include "Nine Flavours" (2008), "The Nautch Girls" (2010), "Devdas the Musical" (2013, 2014), "Anarkali the Musical" (2022, 2024), "Laasya 2 - In Her, all the Power" (2023), and "Paasbaan" (2026). RSDC has performed at prestigious venues such as the Sydney Opera House and at receptions for Prime Minister Modi, significantly elevating Kathak's presence on the global stage.
