Pandit Sandeep Mahavir, born on July 15, 1975, in Mumbai, Maharashtra, is a distinguished Kathak exponent, choreographer, and teacher. He hails from a traditional family of musicians and vocalists of the Jaipur Gharana, with his artistic lineage in classical music tracing back 15 generations. He is the son of the late Shri K Mahavir (also referred to as Shri Mahavir Prasad Kathak), a renowned classical singer and legendary music composer whose compositions have been performed by celebrated playback singers. Sandeep Mahavir was initiated into music by his father and subsequently received his formal Kathak dance training under the tutelage of the eminent Shrimati Madhurita Sarang at Nrityadarshan. Throughout his career, Sandeep Mahavir has performed extensively at prestigious dance festivals both within India and internationally, including the Nritya Sangam organized by the Sangeet Natak Akademi. He is recognized for his versatile choreography, having created numerous dance productions for various festivals and television reality shows. He has also engaged in experimental works with other well-known artists. Beyond performing and choreographing, Mahavir has served as a judge on reality shows such as "Bharat ki Shaan RumJhum" and "Bharat ki Shaan Lets Dance," and has choreographed for films like "ABCD." He also played the lead role in the stage spectacle "Abhimanyu," which showcased Indian classical dance and music. Sandeep Mahavir is dedicated to preserving and promoting Indian classical dances. He imparts training in Kathak dance to young aspirants at his institution, Nritya Darshan, in Mumbai. His contributions to the field have earned him several accolades, including the Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar from the Sangeet Natak Akademi for 2013-2014.
