Sandhya Udupa is a highly accomplished Indian classical dancer, primarily recognized for her mastery in Bharatanatyam. Nurtured in a rich cultural environment, she received her initial Bharatanatyam training under Karnataka Kalashree Vidwan Chandrasekhar Navada and later became a disciple of the renowned artist Acharya Indira Kadambi. She successfully completed her Rangapravesha, her debut solo performance, in 2004. Udupa has been awarded the Vidwath grade by the Karnataka Secondary Education Board, signifying her advanced proficiency in Bharatanatyam. Beyond Bharatanatyam, Sandhya Udupa is a multifaceted artist, also trained in Kuchipudi under Guru Vidushi Vyjayanthi Kashi, Yakshagana, and Carnatic Music. She is a graded artist of Doordarshan and has performed and conducted workshops extensively across India and internationally, including in the USA, South Africa, France, Poland, Sweden, Tanzania, Uganda, and Mauritius. Her commitment to promoting Indian arts is evident through her role as a trustee and co-founder of the Udupa Foundation, a charitable trust established in 2015 by her husband, Ghatam Giridhar Udupa. She is also a co-founder of the Udupa Centre For Performing Arts (UCPA) and its online learning forum, ThaDhim, where she serves as a well-known guru. Udupa curates the dance festival 'Nrityakatha' and has served as an examiner for Bharatanatyam Senior and Vidwath grades. In 2019, she choreographed and performed for the TEDx Bengaluru event.
