🪔 About
Sanjeet Gangani is a distinguished third-generation Kathak artist, choreographer, and teacher, recognized as a senior exponent of the Jaipur Gharana. Born into a legendary family of Kathak dancers and percussionists, he is the son and disciple of the renowned Kathak maestro Pandit Rajendra Kumar Gangani, and the grandson of Pandit Kundanlal Gangani, who is credited with spreading the Jaipur Gharana across India. Growing up in a home steeped in rhythm, Sanjeet Gangani absorbed the art through observation and constant exposure to tabla bols and ghungroos. He completed his Diploma (Hons) and post-diploma under his father's tutelage at Kathak Kendra in Delhi, where he also received a scholarship and worked as an intern. Further enriching his artistic journey, he had the opportunity to work under the guidance of Padmabhushan Kumudini Lakhiya ji. Sanjeet Gangani's style is characterized by the Jaipur Gharana's emphasis on thunderous footwork, intricate rhythmic patterns, speed, precision, and graceful movements. He is also proficient in playing Tabla, Pakhawaj, and vocal music, which he believes enhances his understanding of rhythm in dance. With over 200 stage performances, Sanjeet Gangani has performed extensively across India and internationally, touring countries such as Australia, China, Rome, Spain, and Bangkok, where he has also led workshops and masterclasses. He is a Doordarshan graded artist. Beyond performing, he is a dedicated teacher, currently imparting his knowledge at Triveni Kala Sangam in Delhi and the Gangani Institute of Music & Dance. In 2021, he founded Kathak Parampara, an institution aimed at preserving tradition while encouraging students to find their unique artistic voice. He is also a choreographer, working on pieces like "Dashavatar," which retells mythological tales through Kathak. Awards & Honours: Abhinav Kalawant Samman, Kala Kaushal Award, Nritya Shree Award.
