Sanjenbam Karuna Devi is a distinguished figure in Indian classical dance, renowned for her profound contributions to the Manipuri dance form. She is a recipient of the prestigious Sangeet Natak Akademi Fellowship, awarded in 2016, recognizing her exceptional artistry and dedication to dance. Further acknowledging her talent, she received the Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar Award from the Sangeet Natak Akademi in 2017. She has also been honored with a Scholarship and Junior Fellowship from the Ministry of Culture, New Delhi. Karuna Devi specializes in Manipuri dance, particularly the traditional forms of Lai Haraoba and Ras Leela. Her expertise extends to performing Manipuri Classical Solo Dance. She holds an M. Mus degree in Manipuri Dance, achieving a first-class first from Visva Bharati Shantiniketan. Her artistic excellence is further recognized by her Grade "A" certification in Manipuri Dance from the Central Audition Board, Prasar Bharati, New Delhi. Currently, Sanjenbam Karuna Devi serves as the Head of the Lai Haraoba & Ras Leela Department at Anjika, an institution dedicated to Manipuri Dance and Movement Therapy. Anjika, established in 1995, aims to provide holistic education in classical Manipuri dance and has chapters in both Kolkata and Imphal. She is actively involved in training young aspirants at Anjika, contributing to the preservation and propagation of Manipuri dance traditions.
