Sapna Krishnan is a distinguished figure in Indian classical dance, particularly Bharatanatyam, and the founder of the Lasya School of Dance in Shrewsbury, Massachusetts, USA. Her journey in Bharatanatyam commenced at the tender age of five, under the tutelage of the late Sri Natanam Shivapalan Master. As an accomplished dancer and devoted guru, Krishnan infuses her unique sensibility into Bharatanatyam through her teaching methodology and choreographic works. She established the Lasya School of Dance in 2004 with the mission to promote Indian classical dance and arts, providing comprehensive training in Bharatanatyam with an emphasis on the purity and rich traditions of the ancient art form. The school has since grown into an established institution in the New England area. Krishnan's passion extends to choreography and community service, having directed and choreographed significant productions. In 2014, she presented "Maya Madhavam," a thematic Bharatanatyam dance ballet featuring over 70 of her students. As of 2022, she had mentored over 350 students, instilling in them a love for Bharatanatyam. Her contributions to dance have been recognized with several accolades, including the "Lokvani Spotlight on Excellence" award for Dance, India New England magazine's "Outstanding Woman" award in Dance, and the "Best Creative Director" award at the FoundationTV Red Carpet award ceremony.
