Satishkoemar Myre-Makhan is a respected Bharatanatyam performer, choreographer, teacher, and nattuvangam artist from the Netherlands. Born on June 30, 1975, in Paramaribo, Surinam, he moved to the Netherlands at the age of four with his parents, who were descendants of Indian migrants. His early fascination with Indian dance, sparked by Bollywood movies, led him to pursue formal training. Myre-Makhan began his Bharatanatyam journey in 1989 with Guru Smt. Margaret Verkijk in Holland. He further trained under Guru Smt. Shakuntala Devi, who taught him teaching skills, and later under Guru Smt. Geeta Ramlal-Joeglal, a Kalakshetra Institute alumna, who blessed his Arangetram. His dance debut, or Arangetram, took place in 2000 at the Ayappa Temple in Delhi, India, where he was also initiated as a dance teacher. To enhance his artistic skills, he has attended masterclasses with Guru Smt. Malati Shrinivasan and Guru Sri Jitinder in Chennai, India. In 2004, Satishkoemar Myre-Makhan co-established a dance foundation in the Netherlands with Mr. Peter Biemans and Mrs. Lea van Rossum, serving as its financial and artistic director. This foundation aimed to create a new framework for Indian classical dance and a social-cultural range of music, dance, and theater. He is also the founder of 'Aashish' (blessing), which incorporates Indian holistic techniques like massage, dance, and meditation for healing. Recognized for his contributions, he received the “Abhinaya Chudamani Award” on June 18, 2016, from Mr. and Mrs. Vadivel of the Arulmigu Sri Arunachaleswarar temple in Beverwijk, Netherlands. Since 2019, he has collaborated with Kathak artist Guru Richa Chandra, founder of Indian Rhythms in Norway, and has begun conducting Bharatanatyam classes in Oslo.
