🪔 About
Seema Hari Kumar is a prominent Bharatanatyam dancer, teacher, and core team member associated with Apsaras Arts, a leading Indian classical dance company in Singapore. Her journey in Bharatanatyam began at a young age, starting her training at Kala Mandir (later Temple of Fine Arts) when she was four or five years old. She later continued her studies at Kallang Community Centre under the tutelage of Neila Mami, Veshnu, and Vani. Seema Hari Kumar became a company dancer with Apsaras Arts in 2001 and has since been featured in all of the company's productions. Her notable roles include playing Sita in "Sita's Magical Forest" and serving as the "Sutra-dari" (narrator) in productions such as "Alapadma" and "Agathi". She is also involved in teaching, particularly the Bala Bharatham syllabus at Apsaras Arts, drawing from her own childhood experiences to create a child-friendly curriculum. In 2018-2019, she was part of the first batch of the DIAP Residency, culminating in her thematic solo presentation "Mohini" performed in Singapore in September 2019 and Chennai in January 2020. Her contributions to the art form have been recognized with awards, including the inaugural Neila Satyalingam Memorial Endowment Award in February 2020 and the Bharata Kala Mani in 2022 from Apsaras Arts Dance Company.
