Seema Lala is a Bharatanatyam performer and teacher, currently based in Athens, Greece. She also leads the Nritya Rupam Academy of Dance, located in "Syama", India. Lala's journey in Bharatanatyam began at the age of eight in South Africa, where she received her initial training from her guru, Shrimati Satya. As of 2018, she had been actively teaching dance for approximately 35 years, indicating she started her teaching career around 1983. Born in Zimbabwe, Seema Lala spent time living in Botswana before her family relocated to South Africa. Beyond her contributions to classical Indian dance, she is also the founder of Svadhyaya Yoga and has over 11 years of experience as a yoga teacher. She integrates her understanding of anatomical knowledge and mindful movement into her teaching methodologies. Seema Lala views dance as a profound spiritual journey and a form of self-study, emphasizing its capacity to foster self-understanding and an appreciation for the interconnectedness of the environment.
