🪔 About

Seetha Ratnakar is a distinguished media professional and filmmaker with a profound connection to Indian classical dance. Trained in Bharatanatyam and Kuchipudi by esteemed gurus, she performed extensively in her early career, laying a strong foundation in classical dance forms. This background informed her extensive career at Doordarshan, where she served for 37 years, transitioning from an advertising agency copywriter to directing programs in 1975 and eventually holding the position of Assistant Station Director. During her tenure, Ratnakar directed and archived numerous dance programs featuring India's top classical dancers, thereby playing a significant role in documenting and promoting Indian classical arts. A notable achievement was her direction of the dance ballet "Rasavrishti," which represented India at the Golden Prague Festival in 1985. After her career at Doordarshan, Seetha Ratnakar transitioned to independent filmmaking, continuing her dedication to the arts. Her documentary "Cosmic Connection" earned the Gold Remi Award at the WorldFest International Film Festival in Houston. She is also deeply committed to the preservation of classical and folk arts, evident in her current work to conserve and disseminate the extensive repertoire of folk songs and musical compositions by her mother, the renowned Telugu folk icon Dr. Vinjamuri Anasuya Devi. Ratnakar directed the documentary "Asamana Anasuya," a tribute to her mother's extraordinary musical journey. She remains actively involved in dance, as demonstrated by her recent participation in a performance with the Sarasalaya dancers. Her work bridges the worlds of classical dance performance, media production, and cultural preservation. Awards & Honours: Gold Remi Award.
