Guru Seetha Nagajothy is a highly respected figure in Indian classical dance, renowned for her profound contributions to Kuchipudi. Born in Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh, she embarked on her dance journey at a young age, initially training in Kuchipudi under Smt. Sumati Koshal in Hyderabad. Her formal training in the Gurukul system was further honed under the tutelage of the legendary Kuchipudi Maestro Padmabhushan Dr. Vempati Chinna Satyam. She performed her Rangapravesam under his guidance, notably being the first artist to perform the Hindolam Thillana at her debut. Seetha Nagajothy dedicated over 15 years to teaching at the prestigious Kuchipudi Art Academy in Chennai, where she also assisted Dr. Vempati Chinna Satyam in choreographing several dance dramas, including "Menaka Vishwamitra" and "Chandalika". Her commitment to the art form led her to head numerous dance workshops in Kuchipudi village and Hyderabad. In the 1980s, after her marriage to Guru P. Nagajothy, who also trained at the Kuchipudi Art Academy, the couple settled in New Delhi. Together, they established the "Abhinaya Praneetha Kuchipudi Art Society (regd.)", through which they have tirelessly propagated the unique Vempati style of Kuchipudi. Their academy has trained countless students, many of whom have achieved critical acclaim and received national and zonal scholarships. Guru Seetha Nagajothy continues to teach, including at Triveni Kala Sangam in New Delhi, and recently conducted a Kuchipudi workshop in Hyderabad in June 2026. Her dedication to Kuchipudi extends to research; she is a recipient of a national fellowship from the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, for her work on "viti and praveriti of natishastra and their application and usage in kuchapuri". She has been felicitated by prominent figures like former Finance Minister P. Chidambaram and honored by Telugu movie star Sri Satyanarayana garu. The Hindu newspaper bestowed upon her the title of a "Neat Nattuvanaar". In recognition of her lifelong contributions, Seetha Nagajothy, jointly with P.
