🪔 About

Serena Fernando is a dedicated Bharatanatyam dancer who began her training at the age of five under the tutelage of the legendary Guru Rajee Narayan. Her journey in Indian classical dance blossomed into a lifelong pursuit of learning and discipline. In 2009, Fernando joined Nritya Geetanjali, an institution where she diligently pursued her art. Her dedication was evident as she completed her Arangetram within just one year of joining, showcasing her commitment and talent. Fernando's repertoire is rich and diverse, featuring rare pieces such as the Murugan Kavuthvam, Sankeernam Alarippu, and evocative Javali and Tillana, all choreographed to the distinctive pancha jaathi. She has also had the privilege of assisting her Guruji in the acclaimed Dasavatharam project, an immersive experience that encompassed learning, performing, teaching, and professional studio recording. Further demonstrating her collaborative spirit and deepening her understanding of the art form, she accompanied Guru Rajee Narayan for a workshop hosted by the G.V. Ramani Natya Kala Foundation in Navi Mumbai. In 2014, Serena Fernando presented a completely new margam, a heartfelt dedication to her Guruji, aptly titled "Samarpanam." This recital featured carefully chosen pieces, including Aaduvaar, a Nataraja Padam, and Anname Varnam, each reflecting her Guru's artistic influence. She considers it a privilege to have learned these rare and unique compositions directly from Guru Rajee Narayan. Fernando has performed at the renowned Natyanjali festival in Mumbai, a significant platform for classical dancers. Beyond performance, she has also expanded her skills by learning Nattuvangam and Carnatic music from her Guruji. Currently, Serena Fernando works at Reliance Foundation, Mumbai, while also pursuing academic studies in Public Policy from the prestigious St.
