Shaheen Sheik-Sadhal is an American artist recognized for her multifaceted career as a singer, songwriter, producer, dancer, and actor, based in Los Angeles, California. Born in Cleveland, Ohio, to Indian immigrant parents, she traces her heritage to Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu, India. Sheik-Sadhal received classical training in Bharatanatyam, studying under Malathi Iyengar, the artistic director of the Rangoli Dance Company. Her contributions to Indian classical dance have been acknowledged through Lestor Horton Dance Award nominations in 2005, 2006, and 2008 for her performances in 'Ragamalika Varnam,' 'Kodhai's Dream', and Jatiswaram ('Kodhai's Dream'). The Los Angeles Times notably described her portrayal of Krishna in 'Kodhai's Dream' as "commanding" and highlighted her duet with fellow company dancer Lakshmi Iyengar as "a breathtaking finale". In addition to her performance career, Shaheen Sheik-Sadhal has established an educational platform for Bharatanatyam. On October 11, 2016, she founded Amala Collectiv, a Bharatanatyam dance school and performing arts collective dedicated to the South Asian Arts diaspora. This institution operates in Laguna Beach and Irvine, California, and is in partnership with OC Music and Dance. Beyond her dance endeavors, Sheik-Sadhal holds a B.A. in Anthropology from the University of California, Berkeley, and pursued legal studies at the University of Virginia School of Law. She married real estate developer Harpal Sadhal in 2007. Her broader artistic work includes a significant musical career spanning rock/pop, electronic, and chill-out genres, with collaborations featured on international compilations such as Buddha Bar.
