Shama Krishna, a prominent Indian classical dancer from Bangalore, is recognized as one of the foremost performing artists in India. She commenced her Bharatanatyam training at the age of seven under Guru Kalamandalam Smt. Usha Datar. Her Bharatanatyam education also included guidance from Guru Smt Narmada and Guru Bhanumati. She further pursued and obtained a Master's degree in Bharatanatyam from Sastra University, Tanjore, under the tutelage of Dr. Padma Subramanyam. Her dedication to classical dance extended to Kuchipudi, where she trained with Karnataka Kalashree Guru Smt. Veena Murthy Vijay. Additionally, she gained insights into Kuchipudi from traditional gurus such as Raja Reddy, Vedantam Venkatanaga Chalapathi, Pasumarti Rathiah Sharma, and Vedantam Radhe Shyam. Shama Krishna has also enriched her skills by participating in workshops led by esteemed gurus like Dr. C.V. Chandrashekar, Dr. Padma Subramanyam, Smt. Braga Basil, and Smt Savitri Jagannath. Her career as a performer is extensive, with numerous classical dance performances across India and internationally. She is an empanelled artist with the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) and holds an 'A' grade artist status with Bangalore Doordarshan Kendra. Beyond stage performances, she has also performed classical dances in mythological movies such as Shivaleele and Varalakshmi Vrata Mahatme. Shama Krishna is the founder and head of the Shraddha Dance Centre in Bangalore, an institution dedicated to training students in Bharatanatyam. The center systematically trains over 150 students, emphasizing traditional values and encouraging creative choreography. She performed her Arangetram on January 1, 2000, in Bangalore.
