Shamna Kasim, also known by her stage name Poorna, is an Indian actress, dancer, and model, primarily recognized for her work in Malayalam, Telugu, Tamil, and Kannada films. Born on February 1, 1989, in Kannur, Kerala, she developed a strong foundation in Indian classical dance from a young age. Shamna Kasim received training in various classical dance forms, including Bharatanatyam, Kathak, and Mohiniyattam. During her schooling at St. Teresas Anglo-Indian Higher Secondary School in Kannur, she actively participated in cultural competitions, securing the prestigious 'Kalathilakam of Kannur' title for four consecutive years. Her early career saw her performing in numerous dance shows and competitions, and she gained initial media exposure through her participation in the reality-based dance competition 'Super Dancer' on Amrita TV. Shamna Kasim made her acting debut in the 2004 Malayalam film 'Manju Poloru Penkutty' and subsequently transitioned into a successful career in the South Indian film industry. Despite her acting commitments, her passion for dance remained. In 2014, she publicly expressed her long-cherished dream of establishing a dance school. Fulfilling this ambition, Shamna Kasim founded the 'Shamna Kasim Dance Studio' in Dubai, UAE. The studio offers training in various dance forms, including Bharatanatyam, Kuchipudi, semi-classical, and Bollywood styles, catering to dancers of all ages and skill levels.
