Sharada Ganesan is a distinguished figure in Indian classical dance, known for her expertise as a performer, teacher, choreographer, and nattuvanar. She is the daughter of the esteemed Guru Shri Kalasadan Mani, who founded the Kalasadan Institute of Fine Arts in Mumbai in 1954. Sharada Ganesan graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Bharatanatyam from Nalanda Mahavidyalaya in 1981-82, under the tutelage of Dr. Kanak Rele. Expanding her classical dance repertoire, she also received training in Kuchipudi from Guru C.R. Acharyalu and Guru Vempatti Chinna Satyam, in Odissi from Guru Shankar Behra and Padmabhushan Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra, and in Kathak from Guru Shrivatsava. Currently, Sharada Ganesan serves as a senior teacher at the Kalasadan Institute of Fine Arts, where she has been dedicated to teaching Bharatanatyam for nearly four decades. She is actively involved in training numerous students and choreographing group and dance drama presentations for the institution. Early in her career, she showcased her talent through solo performances and played leading roles in dance dramas such as "Thulasi Mahatmyam" and "Shiva Shakti Natanam". Sharada Ganesan is recognized as one of the pioneering lady nattuvanaars in Mumbai, a role that involves conducting dance performances with rhythmic precision. Her contributions to promoting Indian culture have been acknowledged by organizations like the Inner Wheel Club and Maharashtra Seva Sangh, Mulund. She also served as a member of the panel of examiners for degree-level dance programs at Mumbai University. Her daughter, Nandini Ganesan, continues the family's dance legacy as a Bharatanatyam dancer.
