Sharat R. Prabhath is an acclaimed and multifaceted Indian classical artist, renowned for his expertise in Kathak dance, Carnatic music, and Harikatha. He began his training in Carnatic classical music at the age of 12 under Dr. Hamsini Nagendra and continues his musical journey under Karnataka Kalashree – Tirumale Srinivas. In Kathak, he honed his skills under the tutelage of the esteemed dancing duo Smt. Nirupama and Sri. Rajendra, and further advanced his training under the maestro of Jaipur Gharana, Pt. Rajendra Gangani, at Kathak Kendra, New Delhi. Sharat is also a proficient Harikatha exponent, mentored by his father, Aacharya Raghvendra J. Prabhat, carrying forward a rich lineage that traces back to Saint Poet Purandara Dasaru and Vijaya Dasa. His great-grandfather, Venkanna Das, was instrumental in popularizing the Harikatha tradition in Karnataka. Based in Bangalore, Sharat R. Prabhath is the head of Prabhat Arts International, a world-renowned artistic institution. He also founded and leads Prabhat Kala Tapovana, his institute dedicated to teaching Kathak, and is a founding partner of PADAPA - Prabhath Academy of Dance and Performing Arts, which focuses on mainstream education through art. As a dedicated educator, he imparts his knowledge to numerous Kathak students in Bangalore. Beyond performing and teaching, Sharat is a prolific choreographer, creative director, music composer, actor, poet, scriptwriter, and researcher. He holds a master's degree in Sanskrit and has conducted meticulous research on the etymology of the Karanas. His innovative choreographic works span various classical forms, including Bharatanatyam and Kathak. He has conceptualized and directed numerous theatricals and dance musicals, such as "18 Days," "Apaharana," and the trend-setting "Kathaastra, Dawn of the Epic," which pioneered the use of holographic techniques on stage, blending Harikatha, animations, dance, and music. He was honored with the Uday Shankar award for excellence in choreography. Sharat has collaborated with senior artists globally and his work has graced the direction of cinema luminaries.
