Shibangi Ratna Barua is an accomplished Indian classical dancer primarily known for her expertise in Sattriya, an Indian classical dance form originating from Assam. She also practices Bharatnatyam. Barua began her dance journey at the age of five under the tutelage of "Indira Aunty," who was notably named the 'Golden Girl of Assam' by the esteemed Rukmini Devi Arundale, founder of Kalakshetra Foundation. Her training in Sattriya has been further honed under the guidance of Guru Ramkrishna Talukdar, a recipient of the Sangeet Natak Academy Award, and Smt. Rumi Talukdar. Throughout her career, Shibangi Ratna Barua has actively performed and promoted Sattriya dance. She has presented various pieces, including the traditional "Dashavatar Nrittya". Her performances include being a Sutradhar for the premier of the dance drama "Abhixapta Axirbaad" in Guwahati, choreographed by her gurus. She has also showcased her talent at significant events such as the 'Nityaprabha' festival for Sattriya Dances, organized by the Directorate of Cultural Affairs, Government of Assam, where she performed alongside her gurus. Additionally, Barua has performed Sattriya dance at cultural events like 'Samyagdarshan' at Kristu Jayanti College Autonomous Bengaluru. Her dedication to the art form has been recognized with awards, including the 1st Position in the All Assam Dance competition in 2021 for her Sattriya Dance # Nadubhangi Nrittya. She has also received an award from the Honorable Governor of Nagaland and Chairman of the North East Zone Culture Centre (NEZCC), Ministry of Culture, Government of India, for her contributions to the practice and promotion of Sattriya dances of Assam. Beyond performing, Barua has engaged in creative projects, including choreographing and presenting the poem "DASON DISHAAYEN". She is also noted as a mental health enthusiast who shares her thoughts on promoting the rich culture and heritage of North East India.
