🪔 About
Shilpa Aravind is an accomplished Indian classical dancer with expertise in both Kuchipudi and Bharatanatyam. She received her foundational training in Bharatanatyam and Kuchipudi from renowned gurus Manju Bhargavi and Shobha Naidu, respectively. Additionally, she honed her Kuchipudi skills under the tutelage of Guru Voleti Rangamani, with whom she also participated in workshops and seminars organized by prestigious bodies like the Central Sangeetha Nataka Academy and State Sangeetha Nataka Academy. Her journey in classical dance began remarkably early; she performed her first Kuchipudi solo, the challenging 'Simhanandini', at the tender age of 11 in Korba, Madhya Pradesh, an achievement that set a record. Shilpa Aravind formally marked her debut with a Kuchipudi Arangetram in 1994 at Ravindra Bharathi. Over her extensive career, she has graced stages across India and abroad, delivering nearly 500 performances. Her repertoire is rich and diverse, encompassing iconic Kuchipudi solo items such as 'Vinayaka Koutham', 'Tarangam', 'Thilana', 'Mandodhari Shapadam', 'Dashavatara Shabdham', 'Ramayana Shabdham', 'Annamacharyakeerthanalu', 'Thyagarajakeerthanalu', 'Javali', 'Thandavas', 'Mandukashabdham', and 'Ashtapadi'. Shilpa Aravind is particularly noted for her mastery of temple ritual dances like 'Simhanandini', 'Mayura Kouthvam', and 'Mahalaxmi Udbhavam', which she has performed both individually and simultaneously on stage, demonstrating intricate 'Simhanandini Talas'. Her talent extends to leading roles in numerous mythological and social dance ballets, including 'Sreenivasa Kalyanam', 'Alamelu Manga Vilasam', 'Girija Kalyanam', 'Bhama Kalapam', 'Gollakalapam', 'JayaJaya Durge', 'Tharakasura Samharam', 'Goda Kalyanam', 'Kumara Sambhavam', 'Mahishasura Mardini', 'Manava! Manava!!', 'Haritha Bharathi', 'Devanarthaki', and 'Geetha Sachchidanandam'. She holds a Diploma in Kuchipudi Dance from the Andhra Pradesh State Government and is recognized as a Graded artist of Doordarshan, having performed in various solo and ballet productions for the national broadcaster. Beyond her dance career, Shilpa Aravind has also engaged in media, working as a program producer for a television channel in Bengaluru and pursuing acting roles in theatre and television serials.
