Shilpi Subramanian Mehta is a dedicated Bharatanatyam dancer, teacher, and choreographer based in the Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) area of Texas, USA. Her journey in Indian classical dance began at a young age in Texas, leading her to join the esteemed Arathi School of Dance at 12 years old. There, she received comprehensive training under the guidance of Guru Revathi Satyu, a revered figure recognized for pioneering the art of Bharatanatyam in Dallas. Shilpi marked her formal debut with her arangetram in 2002, a significant milestone achieved under the mentorship of both Revathi Satyu and Latha Shrivatsa. Immediately following her arangetram in 2002, Shilpi Mehta embarked on her teaching career at the Arathi School of Dance, a role she has maintained consistently, except for periods when she resided outside the DFW metropolitan area. Currently, she teaches Bharatanatyam in Irving, Texas, where her classes are highly sought after and fully enrolled. Her commitment to continuous learning led her to further her training for nearly three years under Smt. Sudha Srinivasan in Chicago. During her time in the Bay Area, she expanded her performance experience by collaborating with the Nava Dance Theatre in San Francisco. A notable performance included her participation in Nava Dance Theatre's "The Cloud Messenger," an innovative interpretation of Kalidasa's 'Meghdoot,' staged in San Francisco in August 2013. Beyond her primary affiliations, Shilpi Mehta has actively engaged in numerous dance workshops, learning from esteemed gurus such as Smt. Priyadarshini Govind, Smt. Bragha Bessell, Smt. Padmini Ravi, and Smt. Leela Samson, further enriching her artistic perspective. Since its inception in 2008, she has been an active member of the Indique Dance Company, a Dallas-based performing group, where she contributes her talents as both a choreographer and performer. Shilpi Mehta's enduring dedication to teaching and performing Bharatanatyam plays a vital role in nurturing and promoting Indian classical dance within the Texas community.
