🪔 About

Shobana Ramesh is an acclaimed Indian classical dancer, performer, and teacher specializing in Bharatanatyam. Her profound connection with this ancient art form began at a very early age, where she underwent dedicated training in the classical dance tradition. Shobana Ramesh is celebrated for her expressive abhinaya and her ability to embody the spiritual and cultural essence of Bharatanatyam in her performances. Throughout her career, she has graced various stages, including an international performance in Bangladesh in 2003. She continues to perform with her troupe, as evidenced by a Bharatanatyam presentation in 2024. Her significant contributions to the arts have been recognized with the prestigious Kalaimaamani award. Beyond her artistic endeavors, Shobana Ramesh is deeply committed to social welfare. In 2010, she co-founded the Bharati Foundation with social worker Shanti Venkatesan. This non-governmental organization operates in Chennai and across Tamil Nadu, focusing on supporting underprivileged individuals, particularly women and children, and helping them overcome life's challenges. Shobana believes in the therapeutic power of art, finding solace and strength in dance during her own personal struggles, including a battle with cancer. She has also explored the works of nationalist-poet Subramania Bharati, adapting his timeless verses, which encompass the navarasas, into her choreographic productions. As a dedicated teacher, Shobana Ramesh plays a vital role in nurturing the next generation of Bharatanatyam dancers, ensuring the classical tradition remains vibrant and relevant. Awards & Honours: Kalaimaamani.
