Shobana Sahajananan

Shobana Sahajananan is a Malaysian Indian classical dancer, born on April 26, 1987. She specializes in the classical dance forms of Odissi and Bharatanatyam, and also performs Bollywood dance. Her early training in Bharatanatyam was under Guru Devi Maheswaran, and she later pursued Odissi under the guidance of Guru Ramli Ibrahim. Sahajananan performed her Bharatanatyam Arangetram, a graduation performance, in May 2012 alongside her sister, Shalini. Throughout her career, Shobana Sahajananan has been actively involved in performing, teaching, and choreographing. She previously taught Bollywood dance at the Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre (KLPAC). Her choreographic work encompasses Bharatanatyam, Bollywood, modern/classical fusions, and experimental dance. She conducts workshops and dance lecture demonstrations. In October 2011, she gained recognition for her graceful performances in Bharatanatyam, Odissi, and Bollywood dance at the Short and Sweet Dance festival held at KLPAC. She performs extensively on stage. Currently, Shobana Sahajananan is based in Singapore, from where she travels monthly to Kuala Lumpur, continuing her freelance work as a dancer, teacher, and choreographer, and contributing to the local performing arts scene.
