🪔 About

Shreya Murthy is an emerging Indian classical dancer, primarily recognized for her performances in Bharatanatyam. She is a dedicated disciple of the esteemed Bharatanatyam exponent Priyadarsini Govind, under whose tutelage she has honed her artistic skills. Murthy has garnered attention for her recitals, which have been featured and reviewed in prominent publications like The Hindu newspaper. Her career highlights include performances at significant cultural events and venues. In January 2024, Shreya Murthy performed at the Brahma Gana Sabha's dance festival, held at the TAG P.S. Dakshinamurthi Auditorium in Mylapore, Chennai. During this performance, she presented select compositions from the Bharatanatyam repertoire, commencing with a Mallari in praise of Nataraja. The following year, in January 2025, she graced the stage at the Krishna Gana Sabha mini hall in Chennai as part of the Ilamayil Thiramaai series. Her recital there included pieces such as Oothukadu Venkata Subbaiyer's 'Sri vignarajam bhaje' and Swati Tirunal's varnam 'Sumasayaka', where she effectively conveyed the urgency and longing of a nayika. Critics have noted Shreya Murthy's ability to communicate ideas with clarity through her abhinaya (expressive dance) and her fine footwork. Her performances often feature choreography by her guru, Priyadarsini Govind. She has showcased her versatility by delineating various characters and emotions, as seen in her portrayal of a nayika in the padam 'Choodare' and a playful conversation between Parvathi and her sons in 'Hey heramba kimamba'. Murthy's commitment to the classical form is evident in her choice of traditional compositions and her efforts to present the enduring appeal of the margam format.
