Pavitra Krishna Bhat, widely known as Pavitra Bhat, is a distinguished male Bharatanatyam dancer, choreographer, and guru from India, celebrated for his profound mastery and impeccable technique honed over three decades. Born in Puttur, Karnataka, he was raised in Mumbai, where he embarked on his dance journey at the age of five. His initial training in Bharatanatyam began at Kalanjali under Kumari Vasantha. He later received advanced training from the renowned Bharatanatyam exponent Guru Shri Deepak Mazumdar. Currently, he continues his advanced training under Smt. Nithyakalyani Vaidyanathan in Chennai. Pavitra Bhat is recognized as one of the most sparkling gems among the younger generation of dancers, praised by critics and connoisseurs for his pure dance, sensitive Abhinaya, and powerful footwork. He is an 'A' grade artist of Doordarshan and has performed extensively across India and internationally in Dubai, Canada, Malaysia, Indonesia, and the USA. His performances are known for deep storytelling and thoughtful thematic productions, including "Shri Ranga," "Brahma Astraa," "Krishna Leela Tarangini," and "Shiva". He has also collaborated on thematic dance dramas with Guru Anita Guha and presented duet performances like 'Eka Dvayam' and 'Paraa - Voices of Ramayana' with his wife, danseuse Aparna Shastry. To perpetuate and promote the art form, Pavitra Bhat founded the P.A.V.I. (Pavitra Art Visual Institute), a Bharatanatyam institution located in Dombivli, a suburb of Mumbai. The institute currently trains 350 students, and Pavitra has guided nine students through their arangetrams. Several of his students have received the Government of India's Junior Scholarship (CCRT's Junior Scholarship) and won various competitions. His teaching legacy includes numerous disciples who are now performing and teaching themselves. Pavitra Bhat has received numerous accolades throughout his career, including the Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar in 2021, Kala Ratna Award in 2017, Narthaka Puraskar in 2015, and the Pandit Bhimsen Joshi Award in 2014. He is committed to educational initiatives, conducting workshops globally and mentoring future dancers, thereby upholding and creatively expanding the rich traditions of Bharatanatyam.
