She received her rigorous training under the direct tutelage of the legendary guru, “Natya Kala Kesari,” “Isai Perarignar,” and “Padmashri” Vazhuvoor B. Ramaiah Pillai (1910–1991). Vazhuvoor Ramaiah Pillai was a pivotal figure in Bharatanatyam, celebrated for his innovative choreography and for popularizing the lyrical grace, refined movements, and emphasis on bhava (expression) characteristic of the Vazhuvoor tradition globally. Shrimathy Thirpurasundari Yagonamtham's formal debut, her Arangetram, was held on October 18, 1958, at the Town Hall in Jaffna. This significant milestone was followed by her official inauguration by her esteemed guru on October 21, 1958. Her early performance in Sri Lanka in 1958, as a disciple of Vazhuvoor Ramaiah Pillai, is also documented, showcasing her early engagement with the art form. Recognized for her dedication and artistry in perpetuating the Bharatanatyam tradition, Shrimathy Thirpurasundari Yagonamtham holds the title “Kalabhooshanam”.
