Shruti Abhishek is an Indian classical dancer, choreographer, and teacher specializing in Bharatanatyam. Her training in Bharatanatyam began in Mumbai with her first teacher, Rohini M. Singhi. She further pursued her performing arts degree from Nalanda Nritya Kala Mahavidyalaya. Currently, she continues her training under Vaibhav Arekar from Mumbai. Based in the San Francisco Bay Area, Shruti Abhishek is dedicated to sustaining and evolving the tradition of Bharatanatyam through performances, presentations, and educational programs. She is the founder of Kshetram, a dance school established in Livermore, California, in 2018. Kshetram offers a structured, seven-year curriculum for children to learn Bharatanatyam, focusing on discipline, confidence, and curiosity, encompassing steps, rhythm, and recitation. As a performer, Shruti Abhishek has an extensive journey that includes solo, duet, and ensemble work across India, Europe, and the United States. She is a Principal Dancer with Nava Dance Theatre and has toured extensively with Sankhya Dance Company, directed by Vaibhav Arekar. Her work explores mythology, relationships, identity, and the multifaceted layers of Bharatanatyam, ranging from traditional Margams to interdisciplinary productions. Beyond performing and teaching, Shruti Abhishek is also a curator. She curates The Art Echoes Series for children in the East Bay and co-curates two Bay Area festivals: Varnam Salon and When Eyes Speak. These festivals aim to create spaces for artists to share their work, featuring senior art practitioners, mid-career artists, and emerging dancers.
