Sindhu Nair is a distinguished Bharatanatyam and Mohiniyattam practitioner, guru, choreographer, and artist based in Perth, Western Australia. With a career spanning nearly 30 years, she has made significant contributions to the arts and the community. She is the founder of the Bhairavi Dance School, established approximately 13 years ago (around 2012), which nurtures a fluctuating student base of fifty to sixty individuals. Sindhu Nair's teaching philosophy emphasizes the integral connection between dance and music, and she advocates for presenting dance productions with live music. She has trained in both Carnatic and Hindustani music, underscoring the importance of musical knowledge for her students. Her dedication extends to preserving and evolving classical dance and music, and fostering a vibrant, inclusive artistic community in Perth. She has been recognized with several prestigious awards, including WA’s Multicultural Artist of the Year in 2025 and the Mahila Ratnam Award in 2024. Her expertise is also sought in broader cultural initiatives, as evidenced by her role as Cultural Advisor for the West Australian Ballet's production of 'La Bayadère: The Temple Dancer'. Furthermore, she is actively involved in major cultural events, having choreographed for the Indian Society of WA’s Diwali Mela and organized a large-scale Thiruvathira, a traditional Kerala women's festival. Her work has had a profound impact on the cultural landscape of Western Australia, promoting cultural exchange and unity.
