Dr. Sinduri Jayasinghe is an internationally acclaimed and celebrated Indian classical dancer, guru, and choreographer, primarily known for her expertise in Bharatanatyam. She began her intensive training in Bharatanatyam at the tender age of three under the tutelage of Kalaimani Pakkirasamy Pillai, one of India's leading dance gurus. Her training encompassed history, theory, dance music, development, and dance technique. A child prodigy, she performed her Arangetram, a crucial debut performance, at the age of seven. Dr. Jayasinghe holds a Doctorate of Philosophy in Bharatanatyam and Kuchipudi, which she received in 1996 from the International University in California, and is also a graduate of Madras Music College. Beyond Bharatanatyam, she is well-versed in Kuchipudi, Kathak, Mohiniattam, and various Indian folk dances. Her career boasts over 2500 performances globally, many presided over by dignitaries. She holds the distinction of being one of the youngest dancers invited to perform at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi in the early 1990s. She has been an 'A' grade artist on Indian television for over a decade. In 1997, Dr. Sinduri Jayasinghe founded the Savithri Arts Academy, where she serves as the Founder, Director, and Guru. She is known for choreographing her own productions and creating dance programs for other artists, including Indian and Sri Lankan folk dances. Her dance dramas often explore themes ranging from Hindu Mythology to social justice issues, using dance to address societal problems such as racial tension, female infanticide, and discrimination against the poor. She is committed to teaching dance to all interested individuals, including offering free classes to impoverished girls as a social contribution. She supports numerous artists from India and the U.S. and has students worldwide, including those who attend classes via Zoom.
