🪔 About
Sitaravamma Sandrasegaran is a distinguished figure in Indian classical dance, trained in Bharatanatyam and Kuchipudi. She received her Bharatanatyam training directly from Smt. Rukmini Devi Arundale, the founder of Kalakshetra, and other senior artists. She also studied Kuchipudi under Guru Vempatti Chinna Satyam. Her father, the renowned Carnatic musician Sri Sitarama Sarma, established Kalapeetham in Chennai in 1985, an academy that adopted a holistic teaching approach similar to Kalakshetra. Guru Sitaravamma initiated the traditions of Kalapeetham in Singapore in 2002. She has an extensive teaching career, having taught Bharatanatyam at Kalakshetra for over ten years and serving as a senior Bharatanatyam teacher at the Singapore Indian Fine Arts Society (SIFAS) for more than a decade. She began teaching at SIFAS in September 2021. Guru Sitaravamma is also proficient in Nattuvangam and has choreographed and performed numerous dance dramas for national and international art festivals. Additionally, she has served as an Advisor to the Ministry of Education, Arts and Culture, and as a conductor at the Mahatma Gandhi Institute in Mauritius.
