Smitha Madhav is a prominent Indian classical artist, renowned as both a Carnatic Classical Singer and a Bharatanatyam Dancer. Hailing from Hyderabad, India, she began her Carnatic vocal training at the age of four, giving her first public performance in 1994. She honed her Bharatanatyam skills in the Pandanallur Bani under Guru Smt. Rajeswari Sainath of Hyderabad, making her arangetram in October 1995. Madhav holds Masters degrees in both music and dance, and a B-High grade from All India Radio for her vocal performances. Her career as a performer has seen her grace major sabhas across India and present concerts in the United States, Australia, Vietnam, Indonesia, Singapore, and Malaysia. She is also a prolific choreographer, with original works such as "Raagam Raaghavam," "Navasandhi," "Sri Venkata Gireesham Bhaje," and "Kesadi Paadam" to her credit, which have been staged globally. She often lends her voice, composes rhythm scores, and performs nattuvangam for her productions. As an educator, Smitha Madhav established Varna Arts Academy in 2011, with locations in Hyderabad and Chennai. The academy provides training in both Bharatanatyam and Carnatic vocal music, nurturing over 100 students from around the world. She has supervised the arangetrams of twelve students and over 50 of her students are pursuing degrees in music or dance at various universities. She has also conducted lecture demonstrations, including a performance for Singapore Management University's e-MBA class in 2011, exploring leadership principles through Bharatanatyam.
